Rockset Announces Real-Time SQL Analytics on Amazon DynamoDB NoSQL Database Service California’s Rockset announced that its serverless search engine and analytics engine now performs real-time SQL analysis on the NoSQL Amazon DynamoDB data service. This functionality is what the company specializes in, so it points its SQL-based analysis engine to NoSQL storage stores like Kafka and S3 storage bins, as well as Amazon DynamoDB. Amazon DynamoDB, a key-value, document and key-value database that Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS), touts for its many capabilities, including backing Web-scale apps such as social networks and gaming, media sharing and the Internet of Things (IoT), but not for performing analytical queries, Rockset stated in an announcement. The company stated that DynamoDB usage is maturing in organizations. “There is an increasing need to operational analytics and real time business reporting on it. This requires the ability search transactional data and run aggregations, and join the data with others.” Rockset pointed out that DynamoDB was not designed for large-scale data fetches or scan operations. AWS wrote about DynamoDB in a blog post. Complex queries against DynamoDB are also limited by limitations, such as the inability to support powerful SQL functions like group by, having and intersect, joins, and joins. Developers have the opportunity to use Rockset’s ability for SQL analytical queries to be run on NoSQL data.
Visualize DynamoDB data using leading SQL-based visualization software, including BI market leader Tableau and Apache Superset, Redash, Redash, Grafana and Redash in real time. Create interactive dashboards and real time applications with SQL on DynamoDB data. Join DynamoDB data to data in Kafka stream streams, Amazon Kinesis, or Amazon S3. Rockset stressed that its engine…

AWS, IBM, and Azure Top-Ranked In Big Data Study A study that evaluated the user satisfaction of Big Data vendors found that Amazon Web Services (AWS) received the highest scores. Next came IBM and Microsoft Azure. Info-Tech Research Group subsidiary SoftwareReviews compiled the study in February. It rated seven Big Data software vendors in four categories: vendor capabilities and product features, likelihood to recommend, and “net emotional footprint”, which assesses each vendor’s fairness and trustworthiness based on user perceptions. These four scores were then combined to create a “composite Score” for each vendor. AWS’ Big Data portfolio was the best-performing vendor, scoring 8.1 out 10 in a composite score. AWS was followed by IBM InfoSphere, Azure, and both received 8 out of 10. SoftwareReviews placed AWS in the “Leader” quadrant of its study. [Click on the image for a larger view] The company stated that each of the three winners in big data received a very high Net Emo Footprint score, ranging from 82% to 85%, which is significantly higher than the average score (77%).” “Amazon Web Services Big Data users loved its analytics, data science tools and data security the most, earning top product for each. IBM InfoSphere was voted the best product for metadata management and second for its real-time capabilities.
