SIOS Technology Corp. launched services to simplify and accelerate the deployment of high-availability SQL Server clusters in Amazon Web Services Inc.’s (AWS) cloud.
The SIOS DataKeeper Cluster Edition is now available on AWS Marketplace. It can also be downloaded as an AWS Quick Start.
Quick Starts are automated reference deployments of key AWS workloads. They are created by AWS solution architects and partners. They allow users to deploy popular solutions that adhere to AWS security best practices and high availability. They are able to quickly and automatically implement key technologies in the AWS cloud. This allows them to facilitate the creation of production or testing environments.
Yesterday, the company released a statement saying that “System administrators and managers can use AWS Quick Start to see firsthand how simple it is to deploy two-node SQL Server clusters in the cloud with SIOS datakeeper.” Customers can purchase SIOS DataKeeper software through the SIOS AMIs available on AWS Marketplace.
The SIOS Quick Start description reads in part:
SIOS DataKeeper Cluster Edition, a host-based replication solution, is highly optimized and integrates seamlessly into Windows Server Failover Clustering. Administrators can deploy geographically dispersed clusters using WSFC features such as cross-subnet failover or tunable heartbeat parameters. SIOS DataKeeper provides the data replication mechanism that extends WSFC, and enables administrators to take advantage of these advanced features to support high availability and disaster recovery configurations without the need for shared storage. On the AWS Marketplace, SIOS offers DataKeeper running on Windows Server 2012 R2 in two versions: a bring-your-own-license (BYOL) edition; and one with SQL Server 2014 Standard. The latter option is the more recent, with an hourly or annual price of $0.22/hour or $1.670/year. You can get a free trial.
SIOS CEO Jerry Melnick stated that businesses have always kept their most important databases on premises. It used to take months for IT network, storage, server experts to plan, order and install physical environments for HA clustering. The same HA capabilities are now available in the cloud and can be configured on AWS quickly and easily — saving you months of effort, increasing operational flexibility, and dramatically lowering costs.
“The AWS Marketplace offering, SIOS DataKeeper Quick Start deployment in AWS are comprehensive solutions that simplify the transition to high availability SQL Server on the cloud. This allows IT staff to focus on other business-driving initiatives.
